subject: How To Assist With Missionary Support [print this page]

It is important that we remember the old song with the very strong message that states he is not heavy he is my brother. We all share this world and share the responsibility for the lives of one another. Many of us cannot go around the world to lend assistance to those in need, but there are many ways that help can be provided through missionary support.

A missionary may be connected with any kind of religious group or affiliated with an organization that has a mission to accomplish of improving life for others. In many cases religion is involved, but it also is to improve social conditions, education, health care and economic situations. Most people are familiar with the Christian missions because Jesus sent the apostles out to make disciples of all nations.

It is important to remember that missions exist for practically every form of religion and Buddhism is responsible for the first largest mission accomplished before the existence of Christ. Everything does not need to be based on religious beliefs, but the important issues are to provide assistance to mankind with basic needs. The gift received will truly be yours because you receive the benefit of being allowed to help someone and improve their life by doing something great.

When choosing to support a mission, find one that supports a particular belief structure that you identify with. This can be on a religious basis or with regard to some of the projects that they are currently undertaking. In religion and politics there are times when we should all agree to disagree and come together to do what is best for everyone while maintaining our personal beliefs.

It may help to choose one that is in a country that interest you or that is having particular difficulty at present. Several should be able to be located by geographic destination and this will take a great deal of the pressure off. Local churches and government may be able to provide listings of particular mission groups in the area that are looking for assistance in many different ways.

The amount of money you choose to provide is important because it will become counted upon by the mission. Do not commit an amount that will cause difficulty for your own family later. Sending personal messages with your contributions is also a great idea to provide support for those that are participating away from home and prayers will more than likely be appreciated.

Do not forget about the needs of the missionary as well and try to send something special for them on occasion. Perhaps a gift can be sent for their birthday or when something big is accomplished in order to celebrate with them. Providing support can make the difference in a project and it can make the difference in how you look at the rest of your life.
