subject: Treadmill Comparison Sole F63-participating In The Birdman Competition [print this page]

Preparing for the Birdman Competition is a very unique way to exercise. It is also a lot of fun and can help you avoid a plateau.

The treadmill has brought exercise to thousands of people who previously could not exercise daily for a number of reasons. Perhaps there were too many time constraints to go to the gym to exercise and if the weather was bad, the effort simply was not worth it.

Maybe a mother could not afford to pay a babysitter to watch her children while she exercised during the day. Perhaps a self conscious person felt too uncomfortable in a gym or working out outside to exercise.

There are probably a variety of other reasons people did not exercise. However, the invention and increased availability to the general population of the treadmill has made exercising much more plausible for these people.

For example, a mother can enjoy the convenience of working out in the privacy of her own home without paying for a babysitter because she can watch her children while she works out. In addition, her children will see her exercising and realize how important it is to her.

Her example may influence her children to incorporate a habit of exercising into their lives early on. As a result, the mother and her children will benefit from exercising.

They will experience greater strength, endurance and overall fitness. They will also experience a greater level of self-esteem and self-confidence that will help them pursue more opportunities and achieve more success in life.

However, after a while of exercising, the mother may realize that she is not seeing improvement in her exercise goals whether they may be to lose weight or simply become more fit. This period of improvement stagnation is referred to as the plateau.

To avoid the plateau, you must change up your routine once in a while. You can do this by changing the settings on the treadmill to provide a harder, faster, or longer workout.

Or you can through in participation in a sport once in a while that is fun and new. This will keep exercising interesting so that you will not become bored and quit.

An interesting sport that you may want to prepare to participate in is a Birdman Rally. The traditional Birdman Rally began in 1971.

If you participate you may even win a prize of $1,000 or $3,000 depending on how you perform. The Birdman Rally is a competition in which humans build flying contraptions for one human that are human powered.

Anyone who succeeds in flying at least 50 yards will win a monetary prize. The closest person in history to actually win this prize was David Cook who successfully flew 44 metres, which is only two metres short of the goal.

The competition used to be held on lifeboat pier, but regulations forced them to move the competition in 1976. They moved the competition to Bognor Regis in 1978.

The platform from which the competitors could take off from is higher at this new location. As a result, it is much more likely that someone would win the prize.

Today this competition is very popular and thousands come out to watch it. It is also covered by several news groups.

With this news coverage, the competition soon began to draw competitors from all over the world. Finally in 1984 with the new location, German Harold Zimmer succeed in flying 57.8 metres.

By this time the prize had risen to $10,000. He barely won with three other competitors close behind him.

The Germans continued to be the most competitive entries for years following 1984. In 1990, the world record had increased to 71 metres and the Germans still held 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Officials increased the reward distance increased to 100 metres at this time to keep the competition competitive. They also increase the reward money to $25,000.

Then, in 1992 Dave Bradshaw broke the world record once again with 89.2 metres. This world record still currently stands.

In 2003, over 30,000 spectators showed up to witness this competition. In addition, the competition collected over $70,000 for various charity purposes.

One of the main purposes of this competition is to raise money to give to charity. This is part of why the competition is so popular, not to mention the fun costumes and characters that also participate.

Every year, this competition continues despite rain or other bad weather. A blind competitor even took part in this flying competition one year.

This competition is a lot of fun to participate in. Preparing for it is a great way to mix up your exercise routine with something fun.
