subject: How To Achieve Hemorrhoid Relief [print this page]

Hemorrhoids are soft tissues that function to cushion the impact of fecal material passing through the rectum and anus. They can become painful and swollen. Sometimes they bleed. When that happens, they may be referred to as piles.

There are two types of hemorrhoids or piles, internal and external. Internal ones generally cause painless bleeding while external ones will cause itching, bleeding and pain around the anus.

For immediate hemorrhoid relief, creams can be purchased over-the-counter or with a prescription. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen may be used occasionally, but if used on a regular basis, they can make the problem worse.

New warning labels attempt to advise consumers against the regular use of synthetic anti-inflammatories. Even aspirin can damage the liver, if taken too often.

A good natural alternative to relieve itching and pain is a sitz bath. To enhance the soothing effect you can add Epsom salts to your warm water.

Warm baths are helpful as is a cold compress. If you are suffering with external hemorrhoids, relief may come in the form of a small ice pack wrapped in a cloth.

Ice has a twofold affect; it relieves pain almost instantly by numbing the area while reducing swelling. In order to effectively apply heat to the area for pain relief is to take a warm bath.

An internal hemorrhoid may not cause much pain but they should still be taken seriously. Bleeding from these piles can result in dehydration or anemia if they are severe enough, which may make you feel fatigued, weak or even irritable. You might even find you are avoiding social situations due to embarrassment.

You will want to find a permanent solution for hemorrhoid relief if you want to avoid surgery or other long-term health issues. Once you cure piles, you will take care of your social embarrassment at the same time.

If you have piles or hemorrhoids accompanied by constant diarrhea, you should call your doctor. Hemorrhoids do not cause diarrhea and blood in your feces could be an indicator of another problem.

People with chronic constipation or difficulty passing stools are most likely to need hemorrhoid relief. Hard dry stools irritate the delicate tissues. Straining to pass the stools increases the risk of broken blood vessels.

A very simple long-term solution for bleeding or painful hemorrhoids is to increase your fiber intake and drink more water. Each of these will reduce the chances of becoming constipated, which reduces the likelihood of hemorrhoids or piles.

While you may find it hard to make the necessary dietary changes, adding more water to your diet is fairly simple. In order to increase your fiber you can easily take a fiber supplement tablet, rather than change your menu.

Fiber supplements work quickly by softening the stool; you will often see immediate hemorrhoid relief. The best plan of action for treating hemorrhoids is generally a combination of techniques, especially if you want to prevent a recurrence.
