subject: Chiropractor Oregon City Or | How To Treat Neck Pain [print this page]

According to recent studies, the most common cause of neck pain is bad posture. This is no surprise to chiropractors but many people have no idea what this means. To help clarify "bad posture," picture the following: Your ears and neck should stay aligned. If you "push" your ears forward in front of your shoulders for long periods, then your neck will hurt.

Such occupations that can lead to these injuries include:

"Beauticians - They are constantly bent over clients. This puts a strain on the neck and shoulders.

"Kitchen staff - Again, they are stooped over. Cleaning dishes, cutting and chopping on low counters leads to low back pain along with neck and shoulder pain.

"Computer Techs - They lean forward to look at screens, and this leads to bad neck alignment causing strain in the neck and upper back.

Lowering Your Risk of Neck Injury -

Simply adding some good posture to your daily routine will help lower your risk for neck injury. Of course, you will need to replace your already bad posture habits with good habits to completely avoid injury, but it can be done.

"An ice pack wrapped in a towel helps reduce swelling when you begin to feel neck pain.

"If you feel a neck injury, seek a chiropractor immediately before it gets worse. Prevention is always better than treatment.

"Hot showers relax away muscle tension and soothe aching muscles.

"Wrap a heating pad in a towel and place on the neck to soothe tight muscles.

Seeking Help for Neck Pain -

1.Pain Medication -

If you experience neck pain, you can try over the counter medications. The most common medications to take are anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen sodium. However, these medications are what doctors refer to as NSAIDs. If your doctor has told you not to take NSAIDs or if you are not sure if you can take them, seek medical advice first. They can be very dangerous if you are unsure.

2.Sleep with a Pillow -

Sleep with a pillow between your knees if you sleep on your side. If you sleep on your back, sleep with a pillow under your knees. This will take the pressure off your back and ease the pain in your neck.

3.Chiropractic Treatment -

A chiropractor may need to adjust the neck to get the vertebrae back into alignment. If any one of the many tiny joints are slightly out of place, pressure builds up in the neck and can cause pain in the neck, shoulders and head.

It is unfortunate that many people believe that neck and back pain is a way of life. They truly believe that neck and back pain is something they have to live with. There are things you can do to prevent neck and back pain. You can read more about neck pain and get free tips on making it better. You do not need to live with neck pain. No one should have to.
