Young Paralympic Medallist Makes History At Commonwealth Games

Twenty-two year old paralympic gold medallist Danielle Brown has made history becoming Britain's first ever disabled athlete to compete in an able bodied competition at the Commonwealth games in Delhi. The young athlete has become the first Paralympic athlete to compete, despite suffering from chronic pain on a day to day basis.

Danielle Brown has to endure constant pain in her feet as she suffers from condition RSD- Reflex sympathetic dystrophy. She managed to compete in the event thought but came 14th overall after collecting 676 points in total.

Her teammates Nicky Hunt and Nicola Simpson finished in second and fourth places and England managed an overall second place in the team competition.

It is still early days in the Delhi competition but the elimination round is next on the agenda before the final takes place. Brown has now managed to break the record of Sarah Story a five- time Paralympic swimmer and a double paralympic cycling champion in her latest achievement.

"Everyone seems to think there'll be a lot of pressure on me but I've got no expectations. I've got no pressure on me," said Brown.

Danielle has admitted that she was left feeling slightly disappointed with her performance in the archery but concludes that 'tomorrow is another day,' and that the overall team performance was extremely satisfying.

Danielle is now surely setting her sights towards the 2012 London Paralympic games. The paralympic games are going to be covered at length in the UK with channel four promising an unprecedented level of attention and programmes devoted towards the Paralympic team.

There are confident hopes of success for the British Paralympic team in 2012 and training has already began in preparation for events. The locations of the games throughout London are already beginning to be transformed in preparation for the monumental event.
