subject: Search Engine Optimization : Tracking User Limits [print this page]

Traditional page rank model for search engine optimization is built around random walk of the links on web graph. However the relevance of links go down substantially when the website concerned carries enough amount of relevant user data. This enables the webmaster to use the user data for influencing the search results displayed on the result pages. Recently Microsoft has introduced the method under the caption Browse Rank. At the same time usage data on the Internet Explorer now is directly sent to Microsoft by default.

Being the leading search engine on the web, Google could not be behind in the race. Their chrome browser would phone home about random walk undertaken by the surfer. In addition they have great ability of tracking behavior of the users. Multiple programs like Google Accounts, Analytics, AdSense, DoubleClick, Reader Feedburner, Youtube, AdWords, and iGoogle assist them in their pursuit effectively. Websites that have launched link baits have got good results with their ranking dramatically improving and this has turned out to be the new trend in seo technologies.

Understandably leading search engine authorities are secretive about the change in algorithm they are bringing up to achieve better results of finding the genuine pages on the web. They however, wont reveal or admit their weaknesses at any point of time. Designers have come up with great ideas for improving the random walk by the web surfers with brand recognition and developing word relationship. Realizing that Internet is fast becoming sort of cesspool with all the false and manufactured information the authorities are now putting emphasis on brand recognition as they feel that such recognition certifies the relevance and genuineness of the contents floated on the site. One can put it in the words of Mr. Schmidt, the Chief Designer of Google, who says Brands are the solution, not the problem. Brands are how you sort out the cesspool.

Few will dispute the prophecy.
