Bookcases are great pieces of furniture as they can give you display space and storage space as well as hold your books. Versatility is a word that could be used when talking about this piece of furniture. Thinking of them probably doesn't set your world alight and as furniture goes, there is probably far more exciting pieces. Until you feel you need it in your home, you won't even look. Don't however underestimate how useful Bookcases are as pieces of furniture. They can house your books, CD's, ornaments, pictures or a music system.

The versatility of Bookcases is probably second to none. Much of the furniture we have has a single use, you can sit on a sofa and lie on a sofa, but as uses go, that 's about as versatile as it gets. TV Units, nice, useful, stylish, but they hold your TV, Digital receiver and possibly a DVD player, not particularly adaptable to any additional use. Bookcases however have a multitude of uses other than just holding books. As mentioned you can use them to display cherished items. They can come with storage in the form of drawers or cupboards.

If you have a look around your home and find odd bits and pieces lying around that don't have a particular home, chances are they would be right at home in or on a bookcase. Glossy magazines or cookery books, where do you keep them, a cupboard or piled up somewhere. Now what about that beautiful mirrored picture frame that's tucked away as you don't have anywhere appropriate to put it? Well, all of these things can be kept in or on Bookcases. These aren't just for books, and you would do well to think of that when buying furniture.

Bookcases are probably the only item of furniture that would look equally good in a small space on a landing or hall, or in a bedroom or living room. You can have them in the kitchen and along with your cookery books; you have a display place for some crystal or glassware. Bookcases can be contemporary, rustic, chunky or antique in style with everything in between.

Due to the versatility of Bookcases, you may want to consider putting one in a small space. Have no fear there are some pieces that are very narrow that would be ideal, they can be short or tall but there will be a size to fit any space you have. Therefore, from the kid's bedroom where they will likely be covered in soldiers, dinosaurs, dolls and teddy bears, to the living room weighed down with glorious books of all shapes and sizes, Bookcases are something you cannot do without.
