subject: Helen Ga Camping - Cherokee Campground [print this page] How about a little Helen GaHow about a little Helen Ga. camping? I have just the spot, Cherokee Campground. Cherokee campground is a small privately owned ma & pop campground located just minutes from the main commercial shopping area of Helen Ga.
Cherokee campground offers both RV, and tent sites with full electrical and water. There are 30/50 amp outlets available for both RV campers, and pop up campers. Cherokee Campground is the least expensive Helen Ga. camping facility I have found. Don't expect to have great views of cascading mountain rivers, or beautiful mountain lakes, but what you can expect is a nice wooded, well shaded, and well equipped campground with friendly family style service, and enough amenities to make your camping trip a pleasure.
All of the tent sites are located along a tree line offering a great wilderness feel with plenty of shade. But campers must remember that black bear are very common in this area, and must remember to lock away all food after use.
The restrooms are very clean and comfortable offering dry floor mats, enough room for getting dressed in private, and clean mountain well water. There is a temperature-controlled social hall located up towards the office with a wide screen TV and cable. The social hall also offers a kitchen area, with refrigerator, microwave, and tables should you decide to enjoy a meal indoors. The social hall has a plethora of games such as tabletop checkers, and table tennis, and is an excellent spot for the family to hang out should bad weather arise while camping.
If you can't be out in the wilderness without your wireless Internet access, not to worry, the social hall has it.
Each of the tent sites has it's own picnic table, fire pit, and grill which makes perfect for outdoor grilling, and a memorable family campfire, and firewood is available for sale at the office.
The Cherokee Campground also offers a excellent kids wooden ship play area equipped with a slide, swing, and ladders bound to get all that energy out of the little ones while the parents cookout. There are also available basketball court, and horseshoes.
There is also a large park area with picnic tables, benches, basketball court, and horseshoe pits which makes an excellent place for families to gather and play sports such as badminton, volleyball, basketball, football, and yes the field is even large enough to have a full blown baseball game for large family gatherings.
Cherokee Campground is also just minutes from some of the best dining experiences anywhere. The Unicoi Lodge is just minutes from this campground, offering a breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffet seven days a week. There is also Aint B's Caf, which offers about one of the best country style breakfast biscuits one could ask for, as well as an excellent lunch menu.
Also just minutes from the campground are excellent bream, bass, crappie fishing on the famous scenic, and crystal clear mountain lake named Smith Lake. There is a small parking fee, but the parking fee gives visitors access to all the amenities of Unicoi Park such as hiking, fishing, and some of the most scenic picnic areas located in the North Ga. Mountains.
So if Helen Ga. camping is on your list of mountain bound activities, try this little campground out for yourself, I can assure you will be more than satisfied.
