subject: Why Mom And Dad Are Right This Time [print this page] When any of us become parents, our entire lives shift, as do our priorities and every conceivable definition of love we thought we knew. We know that God lends us His children to raise, protect and teach. Our job is to ensure those children have all the tools necessary to become successful, mature, responsible and loving human beings. Its for these reasons parents are so diligent in their commitments to keep their little ones safe even when those little ones are no longer two year old toddlers, but instead, are teenagers who are quickly growing into adults with their own minds and ideals for their version of this life. Still, Mom and Dad rein supreme when it comes to guiding their children away from those incredibly risky and bad choices, such as sex before marriage. And before you think to yourself, yeahwhatever, remember this is the most important job in the world and if youre blessed, your parents or other adults who are playing a role in your life know this and they take pride in it. This comes from a combination of life experiences and a deep responsibility to their children. Theres an old saying:
Life can only be understood backward; but life must be lived forward.
Thats absolutely true. So is it just possible those heart to heart talks with your mom and/or dad were full of wisdom, advice and direction that come from a place that only exists in the heart of a parent? If theres anyone on this planet who deserves your benefit of the doubt, shouldnt it be the one who only wants whats best for you and who has the benefit of understanding through experience?
Choosing to w8 until marriage before becoming involved in a sexual relationship has far more than just physical and spiritual justifications. Its about stepping outside your familiar comfort zone and really considering how important it is that a marriage license should always come before that level of intimacy. Our emotions are powerful and as such, were wired to incorporate emotions into every realm of our lives including those sexual aspects.
As different as the times are from one generation to another, human nature never wavers. Its consistent; its extraordinary, romantic, overwhelming, fearful and capable of both love and hate but its always consistent. Our parents experienced these same emotions and choices when they were teens. And as bad as any of us hate to admit it, they happen to be the very ones who can guide teens and young adults into their futures, with their morals in tact and their sense of pride alive and well.
Right now, the teens and young adults in this generation have tunnel vision and are only living forward which is exactly the way that its supposed to be; that said, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, counselors, football coaches and even the next door neighbor who come to the family bar-b-que this summer and who took an interest in what was going on in your life and the problems you were having with your Mr. Wonderful she too gets it and understands backward.
