The X3 is a half-inch taller, more than 3 inches longer and 1.1 inches wider with more ground clearance. The wheelbase is also longer extending to 110.6 inches.
Interior
The interior features luxurious materials and has an optional integrated BMW iDrive navigation system embedded in the instrument panel. The screen is 8.8 inches, one of the largest in its vehicle class. More storage compartments have been added including larger door compartments. The cup holders have been changed from popping out of the dash to an entrenched position in the center console in front of the shifter. The cargo area is also wider and more accommodating featuring a new two-sided center section with gripping plastic ridges on one side and carpeting on the other. The three rear seats offer more leg and elbow room than the earlier X3.
Mechanical
The top-of-the-line BMW X3 xDrive35i has been equipped with the 3.0-liter inline-6 N55 engine, BMW's newest. Maximum horsepower is 300 at 5,800 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque. The xDrive28i has the N52 engine, a 3.0-liter inline-6, capable of 240 horsepower at 6,600 rpm and 230 lb-ft of torque. The 2011 X3 receives the new 8-speed automatic transmission which contributes to lower fuel consumption and reduces noise.
The X3 also features a new suspension and the standard xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system delivering excellent performance and handling.
