Kids Need To Be Organized Too! Start kids out early with good organizational habits and teach them how to keep up with daily life. Give them storage containers to use and show them where to store each item. Teach them how to keep a schedule, calendar and daily checklists and have them write down daily reminder notes for those constantly forgotten items. If they earn money, show them how to create a budget to track their savings and expenses.

When developing chores sheets and rules sheets, try to be creative and add in something fun to help keep each child's interest. Most importantly; make each child responsible for his/her own responsibilities but continue to monitor their progress as well. Children tend to stray from their responsibilities from time to time so a check list can help children, as well as parents, monitor their achievements.

When chores, rules and reminders are all clearly written down, most parents will be surprised at how cooperative, enthusiastic and proud a child can be when he/she has completed everything. This teaches them responsibility, as well as great organizational skills. And, of course, positive reinforcement and the occasional reward help keep this feeling going.

It may also help to have an "Extra Jobs" list handy. This would be a list of extra jobs that would be available to your child if they want to do some extra work around the house to help out and possibly earn extra privileges. This is also a great way for a child to earn extra money towards that specific item he/she has been saving for.
