subject: Proposition 8 Court Filings Added To Web Site - You Can Read Them [print this page]

September 17 was the deadline for all those who oppose Judge Walker's decision overturning Proposition 8 to submit briefs to the 9th US Court of Appeals. They were invited to, in these briefs, explain why the think Judge Walker's decision should be overturned by the appeals court.

Eight briefs were submitted, some by individuals and some by conservative groups like the Family Research council. Another brief was submitted by Gail Knight and the others who put proposition 8 on the ballot in the first case.

You can read any or all of these briefs by directing your browser to the following address:

http://calcomui.org/prop8courtdocs.html and then scrolling down to and clicking on the links to the documents.

To make it a little easier for you to locate the documents you want to read, we have begun adding dates to the beginning of the links to court documents. All of the documents discussed in this newsflash will begin with a date of 09-18-10 or later.

You may notice that there are no documents submitted to the appeals court from the opponents of Proposition 8. That is because they, essentially, won in Judge Walkers Court. The appeals court says they do not need to submit their briefs until October 18. And, in those briefs, they will be responding to the above described briefs submitted by the supporters of Proposition 8. In other words the opponents will have the opportunity to provide evidence that challenges the statements made by the supporters of proposition 8.

Documents are still being submitted to the appeals court. As we get copies of them, we will post them on our web site. You may want to return to the above Internet address to see if there is anything new to read. We will continue to put dates in the links to the documents. So you will be able to tell which are the new additions.

As an alternative you will find information on the web page on how you can subscribe to be notified when changes or additions are made to the page. That way you can revisit the page when you are notified of an update.
