subject: Understanding The Parking Ticket Appeal Process [print this page]

Almost everyone who drives a car will at some point in their lives will receive a parking ticket. This is due in part to the minefield of parking regulation we are faced with and the appalling attitude taken by local councils. These local councils by and large are interested in the increased revenue and not public safety. Have you ever tried a parking ticket appeal service?

The best way to avoid a parking ticket and confronting a Traffic Warden is by parking at a place where it is completely safe and legal to park. We should avoid parking at any place we are not sure of the fact that it is legal to do the same over there. We must see that we do not miss any sign boards or glow signs which instructs us about the parking rules at a particular place. Then if we park at a place which is all right and still get fined and a parking ticket is issued against us, we can then always approach the Local Council with an appeal.

These are some of the following guidelines which we should keep in our mind to avoid unnecessary trouble in the hands of the Traffic officials. The places we should not park are as follows:-

At double yellow lines at any time; where parking meters are suspended; in bays reserved for doctors, disabled drivers and ambulances; at double red lines any time; On single red lines (outside the restrictions check signs); On single yellow lines (outside the restrictions check signs); On a Zigzag at any time.

We should never cross the lines of a parking bay or at parking bays where only buses are meant to park. Parking at pedestrian crossings or crossovers is also prohibited. Cycle or tramways cannot be parking places for vehicles which are not meant to park there. Residential parking areas when no parking sign is there and at verges, etc when not allowed to and also during rush hours. We should not park at crossways and in front of fire stations.

If a meter is out of order you are sometimes allowed to park but this is not always the case so be aware of this; where you are unsure of the restrictions.

Parking Wardens or Civil Enforcement Officers as they are now known will give you in most cases a parking ticket instantly for any of the examples listed in this article or if you lucky they will observe your vehicle for 1-5 minutes depending on the guidelines of the Local Authority.

Nowadays the traffic enforcement officers tend to follow the habit of issuing a parking ticket and then get into a conversation with the fined motorist.

With parking fines costing a large sum of money is it really worth the risk of just popping into the shops for two minutes?

There are various companies who can be reached with the help of the Internet and they help file an appeal against wrongly issued parking tickets. They can help us both by providing the necessary information about the intricacies of appealing and they also may do all that is needed to make an appeal to the Local Councils. In the first case where they just provide the information and the person concerned has to do his or her appealing costs less but is simultaneously more time taking process.

There are also various sites on the web to make an appeal and the motorist himself can gather the information and go forward with the appeal. This however is more time taking process and he or she needs to do a lot of research through these websites.
