subject: Finding the Best Car Service Centres for Vehicle Servicing [print this page]

Having one's vehicle serviced by a brand name garage (i.e. car service centres that "deal" the make of the car one owns) is not always as cost effective an idea as one might think. Vehicle servicing done by brand name lots is often slightly over charged a little extra in the price that is meant to perform two tasks: reassuring the customer, by making them pay over the odds; and of course making a little bit of extra money for the business doing the servicing. Partly, that's because the service centre in question has to pay the brand name of the car manufacturer to be called a "registered" service location for the vehicle maker in question.

These registered car service centres are not only slightly overpriced they are also, as often as not, located an inconvenient distance from one's home. Travelling to have one's vehicle servicing done by a registered dealer can often involve a whole day taken out of the week, with hours spent in an unfamiliar town waiting for the service to be completed. No with servicing of cars, as with most things, looking closer to home for a quality garage is often the best and most cost efficient way of doing things.

Think, for a moment, about the extra costs incurred when one has one's services done in car service centres inconveniently far from where one lives. One: the obvious cost of this kind of vehicle servicing is the extra petrol. It can take an hour to drive to a "registered" service centre, for the make of vehicle one owns in these days of uber expensive petrol, that's a lot of money. Then there's all the time off work, or time spent away from doing things one actually wants to do. A day spent kicking one's heels in a car service centre is no day at all, whatever one's interests. And then of course there's that little extra cost in the actual service price. All in all, it would be a pretty expensive trip.

Using local car service centres for vehicle servicing is cheaper, quicker, often friendlier and has the added bonus of giving a little lift to smaller businesses. One's car manufacturer, whatever it happens to be, doesn't need any more money it already was given enough when the vehicle was bought in the first place. Going to a local place with a good reputation can knock tens, if not hundreds, of pounds from a service bill; the service times can be arranged conveniently to coincide with one's other errands; and the actual experience of using mechanics one knows and trusts, or who have been recommended by someone known, is far pleasanter.

Take Ferndale Autos as a prime example. Originally a small local garage in London, Ferndale has grown to be one of the car service centres used by people from all around the capital for their vehicle servicing. Why? Because the prices are always fair, the work is always good and the communication is friendly and transparent. None of the standoffishness one can find with a "registered" dealer garage, where everything is always brand name only parts, weeklong ordering times and extra costs. Using local garages, nine times out of ten, is the best, most cost effective and convenient alternative: it's also the most pleasant way to have one's car serviced.
