subject: Recycling Your Ink Cartridges [print this page]

Once you have finished with your ink cartridges, it is almost second nature to simply just throw them in the bin and forget about them. However, it makes much more sense to spend a few seconds more of your time and recycle them.

Recycling is thrust down our throats at every turn, with very good reason, but sometimes it is natural to get tired of all that effort when theres no immediate or obvious result in doing it. By recycling ink cartridges though, not only will you be helping to save the ever more in peril environment, but youll also be helping to save yourself a few pennies in the process.

There are three main ways of reusing empty printer cartridges. Firstly you can send them back to the manufacturers who will refill them and sell them on, offering the same print quality as the original. Secondly, and much more appealingly, you can refill them yourselves using specialist kits available just about anywhere, which are cheaper than cartridges and allow you to have a working printer again within minutes at a much lower cost.

The third, and possibly most appealing option, is to use one of the many online recycling sites currently willing to pay money for your empty printer cartridges. They will often send you freepost bags and will usually pay good money to you or even a charity of your choice.

Currently less than 10% of cartridges get reused or recycled meaning huge amounts are finding their way to landfills, polluting the environment and meaning new plastics must be created for new cartridges.

Using these services to recycle your old cartridges is quick, easy and will give you money towards buying your own replacements. So for once the benefits of helping the environment are much easier to see.
