subject: How To Make Eating When Pregnant Easier On A Busy Schedule [print this page]

Many pregnant women work full time jobs throughout their pregnancy. A bit of preparation over the weekend can make eating when pregnant much easier for all involved.

Shop with Convenience in Mind

Does convenience have to mean eating prepackaged, highly questionable foods? No, it doesnt. There are plenty of convenient foods that are healthy and well balanced. In fact, the best convenience foods are those you prepare yourself.

Think Single Serving Size

That doesnt mean that you should stock up on single serving packages of frozen veggie and other convenience foods--instead, think of things that are a single serving in and of themselves. For example, if you buy a bunch of grapes, immediately wash them and put them in the fridge cut into smaller segments. Purchase apples and wash them before you put them in a bowl.

Like salad but dont really want to start slicing and dicing when you get home? Store salad toppings washed and sliced in various Tupperware. They will last several days making a quick meal easy and nutritious.

Buy raw almonds in bulk but separate out several snack sized portions into small containers you can keep at work or in the car. This is a "trick" that will help keep you from over-eating when pregnant.

Precook chicken breasts, portions of fish and eggs for use in a variety of dishes. Toss one of these on top of a handful of washed greens, some of your presliced toppings and a bit of olive oil and lemon juice and you have a healthy dinner in about 5 minutes. Best of all, every person can tailor their meal to their liking.

A Meal Doesnt have To Be Complex for Eating When Pregnant

The goal of eating, under any circumstances, is to provide nutrition with the added benefit of being tasty as well. Think about the foods you like to eat the most. Is there some way to simplify the process? This is a time to consider making food in bulk and storing extras in the freezer if you dont like eating the same thing several days in a row.

If you dont mind having oatmeal for breakfast each day, make enough for several days and change it up a bit when you reheat it. Top it with half a banana and some raw hazelnuts one day. The next day, crack a couple of eggs into it. On the third day toss on some berries and a bit of honey. You get the idea. Your breakfast is ready to go and it can still be creative.

Getting your Nutrients

For those women plagued by severe morning sickness it is more important to get them to eat, than it is to worry about what exactly they are eating. In line with healthy nutritious eating there are some foods that can help a mother who is experiencing extreme nausea.

Nibbling on tart apples and small amounts of nuts is a good way to get some nutrition while inhibiting queasiness. Ginger tea is another home remedy that is reported to be helpful. Small quantities of dry foods are best until the morning sickness fades.

Eating when pregnant might require a bit more planning, but in general it is very similar to the kind of eating you should be doing even if you arent pregnant. Your partner may be delighted with the changes to a healthier style of eating too, but make sure to include him or her in your decision. A gradual change may be easier for them to accept, especially if this is a whole new adventure for the both of you.
