Diabetes can cause certain sexual dysfunctions in men. Some are given below:
Impotence
Impotence is one such dysfunction that cause due to diabetes. But the studies shows that diabetes in fact has very little to do with impotence. Impotence is not just limited to diabetes; it is the problem of all men. Normally the major causes of impotence in men are psychological: performance anxiety, grief, depression, tension and so on.
As far as diabetic impotence is concerned, it does not appear until a person has a long background of diabetes or in those cases where diabetes is poorly controlled for quite a good length of time. Many physicians believe that it is something related to neuropathy. Due to chronically high levels of blood glucose, the nerves that control the erection sustain damage, eventually making things difficult for erection. Men feel shamed or even embarrassment about sharing it with anyone or even with their partners.
Hereunder are given few techniques with the help of which a man can cancel out or in some cases even solve the problem.
First thing one can do is to contact your physician and tell him all the things honestly.
Sometimes a medication plan can cause impotence as its side effect, changing the brand or medication plan can sometimes solve the problem.
You can seek help from couple counseling or individual therapy to solve the problem.
Nonsurgical devices are available in the market that can be used to rectify the effects of impotence for some time.
A surgical device, called penile prosthesis can be implanted in male organ through surgical procedure and is used for men with erectile dysfunction.
A drug was approved by FDA in early 1998 as a first drug to treat erectile dysfunction. The manufacturer of this drug, Pfizer claimed that it will help about 70 to 80% of impotent men. Side effects involve flushing, stuffy nose, or headache.
Prevention is better than cure. So, for diabetes where impotency is common in 10-50 percent of men, it is better to keep blood glucose in control to avoid the risk of impotency.
Retrograde Ejaculation
It is also common in diabetic men and usually caused by nerve damage. It is taken as the backflow of semen into the bladder at the time of ejaculation.
