subject: All About Window Signs [print this page] Windows are a popular location to place signsWindows are a popular location to place signs. These signs can cover the area and take away from the view in or out of the window. There are other signs that are tinted and allow light to travel through the window.
When people see or use window decals, such as seen in vehicle rear windows, they are a window film with small holes. These holes help with the design and allow any words or graphics to be seen more clearly by those looking at the vehicle exterior. While those outside of the vehicle can see the graphic the driver and passengers inside the vehicle can still see through the window. They are designed to be safe in moving vehicles. Light is important when using window film and decals because it shows the graphic. The light outside the vehicle and the darkness inside the vehicle work together to allow the driver to see properly and others to see the graphic or sign as it is intended.
Another example that uses window signs is buses. These are the big commuter buses that travel through cities and travel area. People get on the bus to travel to work or travel to sightseeing areas. Passengers can look out the window through the signs graphics, but those outside only see the sign, not inside the bus. It could be a sign promoting an upcoming concert or new movie, as examples. These window signs on such buses have a different look at night. When the lights come on inside the bus then people outside the bus can see inside the bus instead of seeing the window sign. Why? The bright light source has changed.
Vinyl is a typical material used for window decals and other window signs. The signs are on the outside of the vehicle and need a weather proof material. Vinyl is moisture proof and fade resistant allowing it to remain in good shape for several months, if needed. They are often only used for a few weeks because a new subject replaces the sign. These are an adhesive or cling material that is applied directly to the windows that is strong enough to remain in place. Even when there is a high wind and the vehicle is moving at a high rate of speed the window sign remains strong. When these types of window signs, also called a window or vehicle wrap are removed it is nearly effortless. The vinyl window film does not harm the window or the vehicle finish either.
Other windows signs are painted on the smooth window surface. These vary in style as well. One is using window paint. Business and store owners use vivid colors to paint a message on main front windows. They create big letters, such as S-A-L-E, on the window. Potential customers walking or traveling by the window will notice the message and perhaps enter the store to purchase something. Those already inside the store will have shade provided by the sign and not have a clear view of the outside. Nevertheless, the main point to this sign is to bring customers inside to the sale. When the reason for the window sign ends the letters are washed off the window. There will be no evidence that the paint was ever there.
