subject: Function Of Brain Can Be Improved Via Surfing The Internet Every Day [print this page] A recent report from America shows that the brain function will be improved in a few days if the old men insist on surfing the Internet every day. This unexpected report is based on a research in which 24 normal adults between the ages from 55 to 78 had joined. All the participants are divided into two parts, one is the person who previously use the Internet every day, the other are people who almost never use the network.
Before the experiment, every participant' dynamic characteristics of their brain is recorded through the scanning in brain by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In the next two weeks, the participants are required to surf the Internet for an hour every day and 7 days a week non-stop. Internet activities which they surfing include a variety of web sites by browsing and reading the information to answer different questions. After the activities, all the participants will be scanned the brain by NMR again. Researchers found that participants who had never used the Internet have a great improvement in their brain activity.
From the results of the first brain scanning, the brain activity zones of people who almost never use the network are mainly the zones which control language, reading, vision and memory. In the second brain scanning, besides the front zones, the zones of controlling memory and decision-making begin to become active.
Gary Small, one of the researchers and a professor of the University of California, Los Angeles said as for old people who almost never use the network, even if only in a relatively short period of time engaged in Internet activities, the patterns of their brain activity can be changed and brain function can also be improved. Small also explained when people surf on the Internet, many decisions are made which can activate the zones of decision making and thinking. Tina Moody, another researcher, considered that behavior of web search may be a cognitive activity that can be used to improve the brain function of the elderly people.
However, professor Small pointed out that people should pay attention to the way of using the Internet. Through the use of the Internet, you can practice your thinking, but it depends on how to use it. If you are addicted to online gambling or shopping on eBay, it is unlikely to bring any positive results.
