subject: Obesity Almost Killed Her Daughter [print this page] Obesity is a big problem in the world today, and many people struggle with their weight. Most of the time being overweight may be embarrassing or uncomfortable but it does not normally result in the death of someone else. In the case of Sarah though, obesity almost killed her daughter, and this was all the motivation that she needed to lose weight and get in shape.
Sarah's daughter Melissa was two years old, and like most toddlers she was full of energy and into everything. After Sarah had given birth her weight had gone up considerably, and she was now obese at 70 pounds over her ideal weight.
The love that Sarah felt for her daughter was amazing, and she would do anything to protect the girl and keep her safe from harm. One day they were outside enjoying the beautiful spring day, and Sarah's daughter was playing while Sarah sat in the lounge chair and watched her. Suddenly the music from the ice cream truck could be heard, and Sarah's daughter became excited. Ice cream was a treat that she loved, and like any other two year old Melissa jumped up and ran towards the music.
Sarah panicked, because the street in front of their home was a very busy one and Melissa was headed straight towards it. Sarah tried to get up, but because she was overweight it was a struggle, and it took her a moment to get out of the chair. Sarah could see Melissa getting closer and closer to the street, and she hollered for the girl to come back, but Melissa kept going, because she was so excited over the thought of ice cream.
Sarah ran after her as fast as she could, but she was out of shape and Melissa was faster. Sarah could feel the waves of panic building because she could not reach her daughter in time, and she screamed frantically for Melissa to stop. Whether the girl heard the pure terror in her voice or stopped for some other reason, Melissa turned around and started to run back to Sarah, who was almost hysterical at the thought of her daughter getting hit.
Sarah realized that she would have to lose the weight of matter no matter what it took, and she vowed that her daughter would never be in danger again because she was not in good physical condition.
At first the weight loss was difficult, and Sarah tried a few different diets before she found one that was right for her lifestyle and circumstances. Sarah also started to eat healthier foods and to include more exercise into her daily routines. Within a few months Sarah had dropped a number of pounds and several dress sizes, and keeping up with Melissa was no longer a problem. A combination of an effective diet, eating right by choosing foods that are dense in nutrients and low in fat and calories, and getting more exercise helped Sarah to succeed with her weight loss goals.
Now she is in better physical shape and has more confidence because she feels more attractive, and she will never again be unable to move fast enough to save her daughter when danger is near.
