subject: Benefit From Renewable Energy Advantages [print this page]

In order to preserve our planet or even improve the state of the environment we need look at the many renewable energy advantages against the more harmful fossil fuels we currently use to supply our energy demands. With the rising costs of more widely used fossil fuels, such as oil and coal, the quest for renewable energy technology has been ramped up.

The truth is we already have a wealth of knowledge about alternatives to fossil fuels, but the problem has been implementation on a large enough scale, to make it effective in supplying our growing energy needs.

Solar power, wind power, geothermal energy, hydroelectric energy and bio-diesel are the most likely renewable energy alternatives that we currently know with the potential to replace traditional fossil fuels.

Obviously not all renewable energy systems can be applied due to the varying climates in different regions across the globe however most places have an abundance usually, of at least one renewable energy source.

Bio-diesel - occurring naturally the largest possible source of suitable oil comes from oil crops such as rapeseed, palm or soy bean. It can be used as an additive to reduce vehicle emissions (typically 20%) or in its pure form as a renewable alternative fuel for diesel engines.

Geothermal - resources range from shallow ground to hot water and rock several miles below the Earth's surface, and even farther down to the extremely hot molten rock called magma. It is sustainable as the earth will not stop producing heat for millions of years and has no harmful waste making it environmentally friendly. Resources of geothermal energy range from the shallow ground to hot water and hot rock found a few miles beneath the Earth's surface.

Hydroelectric energy - situated in large bodies of water, power is generated by using the flow of water to drive turbines to power a generator which produces electricity. Hydroelectric dams are an excellent source of power because once they are built they require no additional fossil fuels to operate,

Wind power - wind power generation has continued to grow in popularity for those in the right environment, proving extremely cost effective and highly productive, wind generators are able o function all day long with no pollution or harmful by-products to have to deal with.

Solar energy - solar thermal electric plants use solar energy to convert water into steam which powers turbines and produces electricity. Solar energy could dramatically help less developed nations in delivering much needed supplies of electricity for hospitals, industry and other important facilities. The amount of solar energy provided by the sun is enough to meet the earth's energy requirements for a whole year, capturing a small percentage of this could have impressive results.

The drive for greener living and environmentally friendly renewable energy has given birth to DIY renewable energy kits, as well as larger scale projects building wind farms, solar power installations, geothermal plants etc. in a bid to begin the inevitable transition. DIY renewable energy guides teaching people how to construct their own solar panels or wind powered generators to use in their own homes are increasing in popularity all the time. With affordable solar power for sale appearing in ever more places and vendors, even home owners who are connected to the power grid have the choice of implementing their own systems. The easy implementation of a solar power system has made it a popular alternative.

The advantages of renewable energy are undeniably becoming more and more attractive as time progresses We don't all have access to these natural resources in abundance but usually there's enough of at least one to use to produce electricity There are criticisms of renewable energy systems, it would be silly not to recognize not all these systems can be used everywhere, but not choosing to use them will be far more disastrous as we continue to pump out toxic pollution with disregard for the health of the planet we live and benefit from.

Yes it will cost money and it will be difficult but continuing to pollute our planet as if there's no consequences is ignorant and quite frankly irresponsible.

The benefits are plain to see and are extremely encouraging as we recognize the solutions are all around us waiting to be tapped into if we choose to. By more people investing in home energy systems it will take the pressure off the depleting fossil fuel reserves by reducing demand,

As we begin to see the potential of renewable energy, we must recognize our duty and realize the way we are living is unsustainable and destructive.

Depending on where you live you could be using an alternative in your home, I would encourage you to find out more.
