subject: Polar Panic Puzzle 47 [print this page] Whenever you get anxious or even THINK about a situation that bothers you, your mind remembers your past anxiety attacks and how you responded. It doesn't have to try very hard to remember and get in touch with those feelings because the reaction was so strong it left quite an impression in your memory. Remember how easy it was to recall your first attack and how vivid it still is?
Your mind mistakenly makes the wrong association between ANY anxiety and that extreme reaction you had. It assumes that there must be a threat and it needs to protect you using the fight or flight reaction we talked about.
Every time you get anxious and have that same reaction, or avoid the situation to escape the anxiety, you tell your mind that it's RIGHT to consider it a dangerous threat that needs to be avoided.
Eventually, I started to understand what I've already shared with you. That although I was learning a lot and had a lot of "logical ammunition", it wasn't changing my emotional reaction and learned behavior to any significant degree. So I set out to find the answers
I was amazed at how fast I felt better once I started doing the right things to teach my mind a new way. I didn't have to suffer through panic, I could actually shut it off. I didn't have to learn to "cope". I could eliminate it.
That was the only solution that made sense to me. I wouldn't go to a dentist for a way to "cope" with a toothache fix the tooth!
After sharing my story and knowledge with many others, I decided to work together with a Clinical Psychologist to develop a program others could follow to end their anxiety too, just like I did.
Getting everything we knew into a comprehensive, easy to follow, step-by-step system wasn't as easy, and it took a LONG time, but I'm proud to have done it and to have the opportunity to help so many others who are struggling like I was conquer their anxiety.
