subject: Get Away From The Sea's That Are Blue And Visit Honolulu Zoo As It Is The Place For [print this page] There is a place that is the principal zoological institution of research of Hawai'i and it is Honolulu Zoo. Honolulu is the main island of all the Hawaiian and you will be able to find the best Hawaiian vacation rentals out of them all. This is the only zoo in the United States that is established by grants made by a sovereign monarch. It was Merry Monarch King David Kalakaua that granted the zoo to built on a part of the 300 acre royal park in Waikiki also known as Queen Kapi'olani Park. It was used as a place where Kalakaua would have his personal collection of exotic birds and horses. As time went on there were more exotic animals added especially as they were added to celebrate King Kamehameha day and in 1896 the City & County of Honolulu gained control of the Queen Kapiolani Park.
During the great depression though the zoo was on the brink of shutting down, this was due to lack of finances. But even still the zoo expanded on its collection of animals by buying an elephant, a Bactrian camel, sea lions, several bird species, spider monkeys and a tortoise, despite the fact that it wasn't in any great position for a long time after this. But in 1974 the zoo was donated a camel, an elephant, chimpanzees and deer. These donations gave the zoo a spark to revive the zoo and with the help of the City & County of Honolulu who approved the plan to expanded the boundaries at the north end of the Queen Kapi'olani Park. Also more animals were added via purchases, trade and donations in newly constructed facilities which added min more ways than one as they were foundations for new exhibits. The facility designs were inspired by San Diego Zoo which is located in California. In 1990 the zoo felt another resurgence of interest as the zoo started to dedicate more exhibits to feature natural settings
There are loads of exhibits at the zoo today; these include the African Savanna, Tropical Forest, Pacific Islands and Childrens Zoo. The zoo even features Art work that dates back to the middle of the 20th century; these are caricatures of certain animals in the park.
Some of the animals that feature in the park range from gazelles, monkeys, rhinos, cheetahs, porcupines, elephants, giraffes, lions, zebras, hippos, warthogs, exotic birds such as the secretary bird which is usually found in Africa, vultures, turtles, lizards, snakes, tree frogs and much more that you will be very interested in.
The zoo also has a few after park family activities such as the 'Snooze in the Zoo' which allows guests to stay in the park overnight, sit around a camp fire, telling stories, sing songs and taking a walking tour seeing the animals at night. Guest can choose to take the 'Twilight tour' instead which is just the tour by itself. Here are loads more things to do in the park that I am sure you will be interested in.
