subject: Chicago Beaches Diamonds In The Rough [print this page] When you think about spending time at the beach there are many places that may come to mind. California and Florida are popular beach destinations in the United States. Texas, South Caroline, and Virginia also have beaches that are popular among travelers. In this article we are going to go over some of the beaches in Chicago. Yes. I said Chicago. Chicago beaches line Lake Michigan and offer a wide variety of options for swimmers, athletes, and sunbathers.
Oak Street Beach continues to be one of the more popular beaches in Chicago. There is usually quite a crowd here. The biggest advantage this beach offers tourists is that it is within walking distance from down town. There is also ample parking along Lake Shore Drive with a walking bridge that will take you right to this beach.
Montrose Beach is a little farther from downtown but offers a nice expanse of sand and less of a crowd if you visit on the right day. There is, also, a lot of parking nearby.
Fullerton Beach is located across from the Lincoln Park Zoo and can be a quieter beach option because of this. You will find many families here. This is a sandy beach and is usually less crowded if you walk further down from the vendors.
North Avenue Beach offers a great look at the city of Chicago because of its curved shoreline. This is the beach to go to if you want to meet people. Sand volleyball is all over and there is a beach house here.
Ohio Street Beach is located next to Navy Pier and isnt quite as popular as the other beaches but this can be an advantage for some travelers. The pier offers food and restrooms.
When planning a vacation to a beach dont overlook the beaches of Chicago. Lake Michigan can be a beautiful site to see.
