subject: Unlocking The Opportunity To Learn New Ideas [print this page]

When you approach something for the first time it is helpful for you to have the mindset that is open to new ideas.

If you're in a rut, it may be tempting to continue on the same course. It's easier that way, but it can also make us miss out on other satisfying things in life.

Often we assume we know all we need to and this prevents us from learning from others and life experiences. It may make us inclined to make unfair comparisons and we often suffer for it.

Try this experiment. Talk to someone in your family and pretend you're just meeting them. Listen to what they say as though you were getting to know them for the first time. Encourage them to talk about themselves and don't make assumptions.

Sometimes we can be too sure of ourselves and block ourselves off from learning new things. It can prevent us from seeing things or people clearly. Try to live in the moment and not let biases or past events cloud the present.

Here's another suggestion. Next time you find yourself performing a repeated task, try to think of it as the first time. Let that frame of mind help you think of new ways to perform it.

Don't treat each moment as the same as the last. Open yourself to the infinite potential life offers. Don't compare people and events to the past. Let them define themselves anew.

So, try to keep an open mind when you approach life. Don't let previous preconceptions to cloud your thoughts and you may find a new way of being.
