subject: Couple's dream home includes three bathrooms [print this page]

A retired couple have been working on their dream home and, now that it is complete, it has three luxury bathrooms in it.

While the number of such rooms created by the twosome may seem excessive for their needs, they were thinking of catering for guests when they stay, the Journal reports.

Recently, 30 people went to visit Pat and John McCann, who have built the residence along with the designer bathrooms on a plot by the sea in Cresswell, Northumberland.

Work on the home and its luxury bathrooms began in May 2009 and it was finished in April of this year.

One of the designer bathrooms has a circular basin with a tulip base in it, which Ms McCann described as "just gorgeous".

She added: "It's far too expensive. I should never have bought it, but it does look wonderful."

Meanwhile, the family bathroom, which has a bath and walk-in shower, has been finished in dark colours, with Brazilian slate walls and floors set in contrast with turquoise paint.

Meanwhile, one of the talking points of the home is a urinal that is located in the downstairs toilet.

According to Ms McCann, the item is something of a talking point. "One of my friends, who was designing a house, has four boys and she had five or six bathrooms.

"I couldn't understand why the one she built for the boys near the utility didn't have a urinal in it. So I thought, it's only sensible - I'll have one!"

The couple noted that the bathrooms will come in handy when their children come to visit.

As well as providing extra facilities for those staying in a home, increasing the number of bathrooms in a property can raise its value, meaning the work is often seen as an investment as opposed to purely an expense.
