subject: Turn Your Home Into A Haunted House For Halloween [print this page] When asked, there aren't too many people who would list Halloween as one of their favourite holidays or events. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that it doesn't constitute a public holiday and therefore it can tend to be 'just another day' for most people, this can be a great shame as it is a great excuse for a party, to get dressed up and have a great time.
When organising your own party one of the most important things, if not the most important, is the venue. Halloween parties will normally require a fair amount of decoration and as with any party a fair amount of space, but as Halloween parties are normally light hearted affairs why not try and host it in your own home?
First thing, make enough space for people to hang out in and remove all valuables as well as anything that is likely to break from these areas. A great place for storage is the garage. If you don't have a great garage, or it is already busting at the seams, try adding some professional storage solutions to create space. Or, you could add some floor tiles, clear out the junk and host the party in there?
When you have made space the next thing to do is think about spooky decorations! Don't hold back on cobwebs, skeletons and any images of ghosts or ghouls you can find - if you have children they can help you design some scary images to attach the walls and doors. If you are holding the party in your garage, why not add some more scary ornaments in your garden and let the party spill out - what about a fake grave yard or for a high tech effect, hide a portable CD player to play scary sounds or wolf howls!
A big benefit of having a party at home is that it makes cooking and serving party food much easier. With everything prepared beforehand it can be quick to move everything from your kitchen to the serving area. Usual party food and snack sized bites always work well, and as it is Halloween why not add a few twists - maybe ghost shaped biscuits and don't forget the bobbing apples!
Parties at home can be a bit more stressful than using an external venue, but with the right preparation they can be a breeze, and of course enjoyable! Making space is one particular challenge that will need to be overcome, but don't forget to make full use of all the storage space your house has to offer including your garage and you may be surprised at how much space you really have!
