subject: Do It Yourself Spa: Simple Steps To A Rejuvenated You [print this page]

A truly refreshing spa treatment is the kind of bliss that every woman craves for. Unfortunately, regular professional treatments are beyond most womens budget and we tend to save them for special occasions. Nevertheless, just because your finances prohibit regular visits to the spa does not mean you cannot indulge in your own. With do it yourself spas, it is possible to have a wholesome and relaxing spa experience in the comfort of your own home.

Creating Your Own Personal Spa

The perfect spa experience is all about relaxation and letting go of all stress. So before you start your home spa treatments, make sure to switch off your cell phones and other communication devices. Make it clear to your family members that this is your time to relax. If you have kids, ask your partner or a helpful friend to take them out for an ice cream or a movie.

The next step is to create the right ambience. Dim the lights in the room, or better still, switch off all electric lights and light a few candles. Candles have a natural calming effect and are perfect for establishing a restful environment.

Now, indulge yourself with a long calming soak. Fill your bath with warm water and put in a comfortable headrest to support your neck and ensure maximum comfort. Use an old pillow or a folded towel or better still, invest in a luxurious bath pillow. Do not forget to add a few drops of essential oils to the water. A well-chosen set of oils will take your spa experience to an entirely different level.

Depending on your frame of mind, you can choose from a variety of do it yourself spa soak recipes. For example, add four drops of chamomile oil to three drops each of lavender and ylang-ylang essential oils to create the perfect soak to relieve everyday tension and soothe frayed nerves. Switch the ylang-ylang for two drops each of marjoram and sandalwood oils in case of insomnia. You will soon find yourself nodding away in no time.

You can also use the spa time to pamper your skin. Many essential oils have cleansing and purifying properties and you can create a great all-purpose rash relief soak using eucalyptus and other medicinal oils. Add two drops each of eucalyptus, thyme and chamomile oils to four drops of lemon oil for instant relief from skin irritations and inflammation.

Do not forget to take the time to exfoliate. Exfoliation clears the skin surface of dead cells and help in its natural renewal process, giving a healthy glow to your body. You can make a great homemade scrub using sea salt or brown sugar. Take a dollop of the scrub in your palm and rub it onto your skin in gentle circular motions, starting with your legs and working your way up the body. Make sure to use a separate, gentler exfoliating scrub for your face, as the facial skin is much more delicate.

When you are finished, slather on some of your favorite moisturizer. Moisturizing the skin right after a bath helps seal in the moisture and will leave your skin feeling soft and supple.

To conclude, while professional day spa treatments can end up burning a hole in your wallet, you can achieve the same effect using natural, homemade oils and scrubs from your own kitchen and backyard. Do it yourself spas are not only easy on the pocket; they are the perfect way to relax and uplift your senses after a tiring day.
