subject: How To Catch Crappie By Tube Jig Fishing [print this page]

This is a method for you to use while fishing for crappie with hopefully the same success I had over the years. I use the setup that I am about to explain to you while fishing in heavy weed areas.

I use a six-foot rod and six-pound line; attach a one-inch float (round or oval), a 1/32 ounce jig head with a tube jig and fish just above the weed tops or in open pockets between weeds. You need to make a long cast into the weed areas and retrieve slowly across the weed tops. Your selection of colors for your tube jigs may have to be changed many times to find the correct one. On a clear lake try red/white or pink/white to start with.

Crappie have large eyes and good sight so they normally feed in an upwardly direction under these condition The fact that you are using such a small float to suspend your tube jig, you need to feel the fish before setting the hook, because most any small fish can pull this float under. I have already mentioned my favorite colors and now it is your turn to find what works for you.

If there is a slight wind this will move your bait across the weed tops for you. Boat position is required here to take advantage of this condition. If you encounter stronger winds, you can add a split shot several inches above the tube jig to slow the drift down some. If the lure is moving fast the depth will be changed which may cause you to miss fish.

I hope this information provided some tips on catching crappie and helps you to provide some entertainment and tasty meals. This is a great way to get out into the world of nature, relax, and learn a new method of catching crappie.
