subject: How To Properly Prepare Sushi [print this page]

Do you crave sushi but have a difficult time finding a good sushi place in your community? You can create your own since the ingredients needed are not that expensive and it is very easy to make.

MATERIALS NEEDED IN CREATING A SUSHI

The materials needed for this endeavor are nori (seaweed wraps), sushi rice, vegetables, sashimi grade fish, bamboo sushi mat, soy sauce and different kinds of seasoning.

STEPS IN PREPARING THE RICE FOR THE SUSHI

Remember to buy the right type of rice. Rice use for sushi is different from the standard rice that you can buy in your local market. To create your own sushi rice, you need to buy short grain rice.

Follow the cooking instructions indicated in the rice package. The short grain rice variety is the only type of rice hat will provide the stickiness that you will need when creating your masterpiece. Flavor the rice with seasoning after you are sure that it is thoroughly cooked.

Place a few tbsps. of Japanese rice vinegar in a pot together with a few tbsps of granulated sugar and two to three pinches of salts and heat it up. When the salt and granulated sugar completely melted in the mixture, your vinegar mix is now ready. Carefully pour the vinegar mix in your rice.

Place the rice from the rice pot into a wooden container or plastic container and then carefully spread it with a wooden spoon or spatula. The rice needs to be cool enough so that you can safely handle it and for additional stickiness.

STEPS IN CREATING A SUSHI

You can buy nori, which is also known as seaweed wrap, at the Asian deli or at a gourmet outlet. You can also buy it on online Asian specialty product stores. Carefully place the nori on the sushi mat with the more striking portion facing the bamboo mat. Wet both of your hands with H2O and evenly spread the rice onto the nori.

Arrange the sushi ingredients in the center of the seaweed wrap. You can use your favorite vegetables and fish. Cut the vegetables and fish thinly to bring out its flavor. Add some ginger to enhance the flavor of your masterpiece. Carefully pull the mat and roll the nori.

When you are finish rolling the wrap, wet the edges of the sushi to seal it. Cut the roll into numerous pieces. Use soy sauce for additional flavor. You can now enjoy your very own homemade sushi.
