subject: My site needed more traffic, and search engine optimisation seemed like a good idea [print this page] I've been running a website about poker strategy for years, and it has finally gotten popular. I was able to charge people for putting up banner ads on my site, so now I was making money, and traffic became much more important. I decided it was time to advertise the site and actually try to market it a little bit. I didn't know anything about search engine optimisation , but I had a relative in the business, and I thought he might be able to help me.
First, I tried Google adwords , which was easy to set up, and it worked really well. We already have decent traffic on my site, and I didn't really think adwords would be able to improve it, but it did. After that, I asked my cousin, who does search engine marketing for a living, if he could give me some advice. He showed me several ways to make my site much more search engine friendly, and they weren't even difficult to implement. The whole thing took less than a day, and the results were almost immediate.
I always thought of this site as something fun to do on the side, but I'm starting to think it could eventually become a full time job. I never thought search engine optimisation could make such a difference, which is why I never tried it previously. My cousin has a lot of expertise, so I had an advantage, but I'm sure there are probably companies out there that could handle these things for others in a similar situation.
