There is no way to measure stressThere is no way to measure stress. What one person will consider extreme conditions may not cause another person to be the least bit concerned. Most of the time, when a person considers themselves to be under an unacceptable stress load the stress is from multiple sources. Any of the sources by themselves the person might be able to handle. However, when they all converge on the person at once the stress from each situation compounds the other. For example, a person having problems with the boss at work and the wife at home could find themselves experiencing physical and mental manifestations of extreme stress.

Some people react to stress more frequently than other people do. Studies have supported the theory that social groups can play a crucial role in reducing stress. The relaxation and enjoyment a person gets from the group decreases their stress level. The group serves as support for the person. Those with solid support systems tend to deal much better with stress than those without the systems.

There are a myriad of stress relieving techniques. What works is extremely individualized. One consistency researchers have found is that education and skills training are both needed. Meditation, exercise, and yoga help channel positive energy and offer relaxation. Both of these are essential to controlling stress. Some people need a more individualized approach with one to one counseling.

Time management is a significant stressor for many people. They do not know how to plan and arrange their day to day lives so that they meet all of their goals, and have time for themselves at the end of the day. While it can be one of the most difficult skills to learn, it is one of the more important. Meditation helps the person achieve a state of relaxation and peace. The person can reflect calmly on how life if going. It helps them reconnect to the things that are pertinent to them. This reflection helps them see the positive things they have achieved and created.

Conflict management is another vital skill that most people do not have. They see conflict as negative, a win or lose situation. Changing how a person views and deals with conflict is difficult, but worth the effort. Someone who is able to manage conflict will have much less stress.

Physical well being cannot be stressed enough in the management of stress. A person needs to feel good about their physical self in order to achieve the inner peace they seek. It is not about appearance but how they feel. Exercise promotes the release of endorphins into the body that lift the mood. It also eliminates aches and pains associated from inactivity.
