subject: Weather And Walleye's [print this page]

Well the weather plays a very important part when you are going out for your fishing trip. If its sunny and alittle windy to make some waves, good chance youll find walleye almost anywhere! The waves will cool the water and the walleye like that and it also redirects the suns rays so it protects the walleyes eyes, which are sensitive to the sun. A sunny day out will make the walleye going to deeper water and or under structures underwater. The weather plays a very important part if you will be catching walleye on your next trip out.

In the fall, Ive been in cold, cloudy and windy conditions and caught alot of walleye. In average water, anywhere from 6-20 ft and where it was a rocky bottom or a muddy bottom. Walleye like rocky bottoms as they hide in the rocks to stay cool and you can catch them there most of the time. With muddy bottoms, Ive been told and read that they like the mud because of the oxygen it produces. Dont know about that theory but I have caught them there! When fishing on a sunny day on a lake, Ive found them near islands and rock structures. These spots actually produced alot of pickerel for me but also near weed beds as well. The one thing to remember is that walleye love to stay cool and out of the suns rays.

Another good place to find walleye when fishing on a lake is at where a stream or creek or waterfalls run into the lake. The fish like the fast moving water to stay cool and most of the time its rocky or near weeds. When in a river, sometimes near the shoreline or right in the channel of the river, you can catch pickerel. Again, its good to know the area your fishing in and always watch the weather!
