subject: Aggressive Driving Behaviour [print this page] Society seems to have a problem with aggressive driving, and the issue isn't getting any better, with more cars on the road and congestion being much worse, people's behaviour seems to have escalated at an alarming rate. With the recession upon us people are more stressed as it is, with jobs being cut and fuel prices rising at a rate of knots.
Any dangerous driving is still punishable by law, but obnoxious driving can still be deemed to be aggressive and therefore dangerous. Speeding off from the lights and refusing to let other road users in front of you are also deemed dangerous behaviour, and if you are spotted by a police officer, you could be fined. Cameras have done a great deal to reduce aggressive speeding, but other behaviours are still rife on the roads.
The national road safety administration recommends the following behaviour in the face of a dangerous driver:
Get out of the way. There is no need to engage in contact with someone like that, as you will most likely get in an accident. Let them pass, and just be annoyed that such idiots are on the roads.
Put your pride aside: don't challenge them, refuse to let them in or do anything that could put you or the other drivers in the area in any more danger.
Avoid eye contact: like a red rag to a bull, if a driver is aggressive this can cause further annoyance.
Avoid gestures: again, ignore the driver's behaviour to protect yourself.
Report it: if someone is driving badly, you or your passenger should report them to the police.
Make sure that you are protected by a Car Insurance policy.
