subject: How Mothers Can Prepare For A Better Job [print this page]

The economy may be in a slump, but its still smart to invest in your future. It's especially important that mothers have the tools to be able to care for their families. The job sectors that are expected to rise will have many positions available that qualified workers can fill.

It should be no surprise that communications and technology are areas that are steadily rising in importance. Digital and wireless capabilities continue to advance, and new technology is being developed constantly. There are sizable teams that are needed to produce these tools as well as people to provide assistance in using them. In the next five years, the field of computer software engineering is expected to grow significantly. Analysts for computers and communications systems will also be in demand.

Another career area that is sure to grow is healthcare. There are plenty of important careers besides being a doctor or nurse. Physical therapists and their assistants will be in high demand as well as occupational therapists and athletic trainers. Counseling is another career area that usually requires a specialized degree and could be in demand. Many healthcare jobs require advanced education, but there are many opportunities available for careers that don't.

Job growth and opportunity is lagging now, but expectations for the future are high. A number of industries and service areas could see growth in the rebounding economy. Having the right education will be crucial for landing a job in these areas. Moms are often hardest hit by a poor economy. Luckily there are programs targeted specifically toward them. In 2009, President Obama introduced the Grants for Moms initiative. By making it easier to get as much as $5,000 for their education, the administration is trying to encourage eager women to go back to school or even to go for the first time. Now moms who want to advance their education can afford to get the degrees they want and need.

Moms have a lot of responsibility for their children and families, and the Obama education grants are an effort to give something back to them. Universities and junior colleges all around the country have worthy programs of study for all kinds of interests. The road to your future can begin now with a quality education.
