Extracurricular activities exist at all levels of education. Once a child goes to school, he/she joins some activity and participates in one or several different activities until the end of his/her education.

First extracurricular activities appeared in the 19th century in America. The very first activities were the literary societies at Harvard and Yale, then debating clubs. Students organized athletic programs on-campus.

Today, the range of extracurricular activities is much wider that it was in the 19th century and the number of students participating in them has also grown. Actually, the majority of students participate at least in one extracurricular activity. The most popular activities at every educational establishment are sports.

Let us discuss swimming as the variant of extracurricular activity for students.
