subject: Reasons That You Can't Open Your Yahoo Mail [print this page]

Yahoo is one of the commonly used email service providers in many countries. Aside from offering lots of free features, Yahoo has several domains to choose from. It is also available in many local tlds, which allow them to customize the features and content that they provide to your welcome page.

Because many Y!Mail users use this service for their primary email addresses, it can spell a lot of trouble when one can't open or sign in to his or her Yahoo email account. Here are some of the reasons that you can't open your Y!Mail and ways how to address them.

* Yahoo is doing some feature and security updates

Since the Y!Mail service was launched, it has undergone a lot of changes to increase the quality of service to their users. Whenever Yahoo does these system upgrades, they will have to temporarily deny access to their services. Usually, when you try to access your Y!mail account while this is being done, you will receive a message that Yahoo is updating its services.

There is nothing else you can do but wait while the update process is over. The best thing that you can do is to check back after around 30 minutes to see if you can already use the Y!Mail service.

* Your server settings are incorrect

If you are a paid Y!mail user, you are allowed to access your Y!Mail using email clients such as Microsoft Outlook Express and Mozilla Thunderbird. If this is your first time to use Y!Mail Plus with these email clients, double check the settings to make sure that you entered everything correctly.

The email address field should contain your email address including the "@yahoo.com." Make sure that "plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com" is entered in the incoming POP3 mail server, while "plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" is for the outgoing SMTP mail server. Your account name should be entered without the "@yahoo.com" and retype your password in the appropriate field.

* You are not connected to the Internet

Some people might overlook checking if their Internet connection is working. If you are using a Microsoft Windows operating system, check the connection icons that are located in the taskbar. Use your browser to open a different website. If it still doesn't work, then there is probably something wrong with your Internet connection. Contact your Internet service provider for more information.

Having a reliable email service provider is very important for all levels of Internet users. While Y!Mail is one of the best and most reliable free email providers, there are times that you will not be able to access your account, but don't be too quick to blame Yahoo for the interruption of your email service.
