It can be dangerous also, as there is always a danger of you getting lost or hurt due to the rugged terrain. But fear not, follow these tips and I am sure you will be ready to go.

The first thing to do is to study a map or guide to acquaint yourself with the terrain that you plan to visit and estimate the time it will take to arrive at your destination.Create an estimate of important details like time taking into account some contingencies like extra time to account for delays.

Please obtain necessary permits and reserve campsites in advance because although it might sound cool to go unprepared, it may actually work against you. Make a not of local regulations to avoid fines. Know the area's weather patterns and accommodate for time of year. Always be prepared for the worst weather.

It's human nature to perspire, even in the winter, so dress appropriately and be prepared for changing conditions, temperature changes at higher altitudes, and evenings. Avoid wearing jeans or cotton clothing like the plague. Wear polypropylene, wool or other breathable materials that keep moisture at bay. Always pack rain gear as you never know when a thunderstorm might hit.

Check your gear umpteen times before heading out. Check the sealing of your tent and prop up the required weak areas. Familiarize yourself with its design and set-up. Learn how to be comfortable around utilities like stoves and stuff so that you don't end up without food or the means to cook it. Know what you can carry and how long you can carry it. The pack shouldn't weigh more than 25 percent of your weight, so take only what you need.

I am sure that with these tips you can enter the wonderful world of back-packing and I am sure you will be psyched in your journeys.
