Airport hire cars are generally parked in the two storey parking garage opposite the exit from the Arrivals Hall/Customs. You only have to exit the Arrivals Hall and walk a short distance across the road. A limited number of suppliers bid for the few "in terminal" check-in desk facilities so who offers "in terminal" check-in can change without notice.
Most suppliers have vans (or small offices) in the parking garage. Just look for the supplier's name (as per your hire car voucher) and follow the directions and signs. It is certainly not difficult.
If your hire car voucher is for "meet and greet" then your representative will hold up a board with your name on it so you will see him/her as you exit the Arrivals hall/Customs. Exiting the airport is easy and it is only a short distance to pick up the main highway (A7). Alternatively, if you are going into Alicante itself, you can take the coast road from the airport. If you are driving your hire car for the first time you may find this easier than looking for the correct exit from the main highway!
If you need a hotel near Alicante (even closer to the airport) one of our favorites is El Huerto del Cura (in Elche itself). It has a unique location within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Palmeral de Elche. This palm tree garden covers more than 20,000m squared.
The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by gardens and terraces. There is a tennis court, a golf driving range and a putting green. The restaurant offers a la carte Mediterranean food and you can also dine outside beside the swimming pool (weather permitting).The attractive lodgings of the Huerto del Cura are designed like bungalows and are in a restful garden setting.
There are more affordable hotels closer to Alicante itself, most of them very easy to find if you've never been to the area before. Hiring a car at Alicante airport will give you the freedom to explore both the coast and hills around this bustling city.
