subject: The New Gaming Culture Of Online Games And Communities [print this page]

Technology has definitely played a major role in changing the whole modern culture and has become very popular with the masses. There is a new culture on the rise, namely the gaming culture. It was born between the two of the major communication mediums out there today, namely computers and television. These two have changed the way people work and play permanently and it is something the youth, and these days people of all ages, are seriously drawn to.

There has been a change the way games have been played as a form of entertainment. Board games and card games have taken a back seat to games that are driven by technology. People play games on their computers and mobile phones and there are a number of popular gaming consoles and handheld gaming devices that are aimed purely at gaming.

If you have a look at how this has evolved over the years, you truly start seeing how the whole world are joining in the fun and games. People of all ages are playing and interacting with each other the world over. The days of kids sitting cropped up in their rooms in the dark playing games for hours on end is not what it used to be. Many of the games these days are centered around interacting with other players and on consoles like the Wii there is a lot of physical effort you need to put into the games. When playing games like this it automatically builds team work and working towards a goal, which has real world benefits as well.

The gaming culture can really be used as a powerful tool by educators. Many of the games you play these days are beneficial in improving communication, improving decision making skills and problem solving. There are also a large number of blogs, forums, and websites where gamers can chat to each other and collaborate to get better at a certain game.

If you have a look at the gaming culture these days is purely a technology driven form of socializing and interacting. Critics are just looking at the down side of it and not recognizing the many positive outcomes it can have. If games are played in moderation and not all the time it can be a very useful part of the development for children.
