subject: Anabolic steroids in MMA [print this page]

Reports have surfaced recently that Chael Sonnen tested positive for performance enhancing drugs following his five round submission loss to UFC Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva. This fight was one of the best of the year and UFC President Dana White had already been working on scheduling a rematch for the beginning of 2011. Now that match will surely be delayed, if it happens at all. This development uncovers a very big problem in the world of MMA.

Steroid use amongst fighters in MMA is rife and I would say upto 50% of fighters have used anabolic steroids at one time or another. They call it "cheating" but in my opinion they are just trying to get an edge, the same as a fighter or boxer using certain types of supplements or diets or even a type of training but this is not called "cheating". Anabolic steroids are not going to go away and they actually improve your body's image, muscle strength and if used in moderation improve your health because phsycologically they make you train harder. If they were made LEGAL it would take away a lot of the problems associated with steroid use. I may be on my own with this theory but doesn't it make sence? Recreational drugs have long been illegal but has it stopped people using them, even with the risks of being caught, NO!!Isn't it about time the governments took a different approach, should it not be upto the individual what they put in their body, as long as they are an adult and of sound mind? What do you think?www.anabolictoday.com
