In order to become an effective leader you have to know how to include the people around you in the decision making process. Being able to see the potential in others is essential in helping others, as well as yourself. It's important to be able to bring people up when you are a leader. You can do this when you lead with compassion and insight. Remember, a leader's job is to think about those in his/her sphere.

Make sure you have clear, definitive goals. Once you have a goal, create an action plan that goes along with it. Just as your goal is clear, the action steps you plan to achieve your goals have to be just as clear. Remember, the best way leaders can lead is by setting the example. While this may seem like a lot of responsibility, it falls on those who want to lead.

Keep a positive attitude. It's hard to move forward if you're a negative person. In addition to being unable to move forward, people really don't like negativity. People often gravitate toward individuals who have a positive outlook on life and situations in general. When you remain positive, you'll also attract people into your sphere with a similar attitude.

Clear and strong communication skills are essential if you want to be a strong leader. This means that you have strong verbal and written skills. These skills allow you to communicate your goals, intentions and vision for the people are you trying to lead. Excellent leaders throughout history have often been master communicators. Simply because as a leader you have to be able to connect with people with the words you speak.

Sharpening and maintaining your leadership skills is a never-ending process. You need to continuously work on areas of weakness in order to better serve yourself and the sphere of people around you. Remember, all great leaders lead by the way they live. It's not enough to simply say the words you want people to implement. If they don't see you implementing it yourself, no one will follow.
