The Burton Global Open Series is sponsored by Burton Snowboards. It kicks off on ski lodges in New Zealand this summer. All six Burton Global Open Series events offer riders the chance to earn points towards a male and female championship title, each worth $100,000.

There are also many other smaller division competitions taking place at slopes across the nation. A large amount of prizes and promotional gear is awarded at these contests and is something you don't want to miss. Snowboard Terrain Parks offer a variety of half-pipes, quarter-pipes, ramps as well as jibs and rails to practice tricks on. These ski slopes have special machinery to maintain and groom these parks. Backcountry snowboarding is also popular and offers a different kind of freedom away from the maddening crowd.

Freestylers, on the other hand, prefer the mountain open terrain with fresh powder mountain experience. Freestyle boards equipment are generally a softer boot and boards are relatively longer and more directional shape wise. The wider board keeps those toes out of the snow and lessens the drag.
