subject: The Consequences of Smoking [print this page]

People who started smoking know that quitting is really difficult. Even though they realize the consequences of smoking, they cannot stop because they do not want withdrawal symptoms to occur. Examples of these symptoms are painful migraines and tendency to get really violent when they do not get to smoke. They would rather smoke than experience these unwanted symptoms.

Nicotine isn't the only harmful chemical inside a cigarette. There are actually thousands of them so you better try to find a way to quit or else cigarette smoking will slowly destroy your body.

Tar is dangerous in a sense that it carries nicotine with it. You can say that it is the vehicle nicotine uses so it can travel to the bloodstream, brain, and other organs in the body. This is the main reason why you get addicted. Every time you smoke, your body feels that it must take in more nicotine than what you previously took.

Statistics show that there is an increasing number of people dying from smoking-related illnesses each year. There are actually a lot of diseases that can be acquired from smoking. Usually, the organs involved are the lungs and the heart. It has also been reported that each time you puff a cigarette, you are subtracting 4 minutes off your total lifespan.

If you really have a difficult time quitting, then at least don't smoke inside your home. The last thing you'd want is for your pregnant wife and asthmatic child to inhale the smoke you are producing. The effects of smoking could also happen to them and I'm sure you don't want them getting lung and heart problems. Smoking while your wife is pregnant can cause your unborn child to have abnormalities, physically and psychologically.

Build up of tar in your mouth could cause a yellowish discoloration of the teeth and believe me, it is very difficult to remove. People will avoid talking to you because you smell like stinky tobaccos. Overall, your charm will decrease and your self-esteem will hit an all time low.

The only thing you gain in smoking are diseases, so, as much as possible, lay off the cigarettes. Don't wait until you get addicted as it will just be additional burden for you and the people around you.
