subject: Super Nintendo SNES Game Systems and Sega Genesis Consoles [print this page] Some of my fondest memories as a child are playing the old Super Nintendo system (SNES) and the Sega Genesis 16 bit consoles with my brothers and occasionally my mom and dad. We used to play Altered Beast and Sonic the Hedgehog for hours on the Sega, but on the SNES my favorite games were always the official ones like Super Mario World, Zelda, Kirby and others. Of course I could never forget those mornings waking up with thick callases on my thumbs from playing bouts of Super Street Fighter II on the SNES!! :)
Now that I have kids of my own, all I hear is "Mom, I want a PS3" or "Mom I want a Wii" The problem is that I don't have a lot of money and my kids being too young to hold jobs. I got to thinking, why not get them hooked on classic retro video games? Though it sounded like a good idea, I looked and looked for old consoles and finally bought one at a local pawn shop. It worked for about two weeks until the light started flickering and it was pretty much DOA. The pawn shop told me too bad and it was sold as is. GRRRRR!!!! I really dont want to play games fixing my game system, but I just wanted to play games. I was about 2 inches from buying a Wii or a PS3, but I thought I would do one more search online for the classic consoles.
Low and behold I actually ran into a bit of luck! Does anyone out there know about these??? I never heard anything about this in my town, and never seen them in my freakin life! They actually make a three in one console that plays all the old Nintendo nes games, the Snes games AND the genesis games all in one system. And it even comes with wireless controllers but optionally accepts the original controllers. I bought one already and absolutely love it! Works like a dream and it should because it is brand spankin' new in a retail box. I felt it was a pretty good deal considering it plays every old console worth a darn and the games cartridgest themselves are easily found on ebay or at local pawn shops for a dime dozen (not literally).
I am sure there are a few more sources out there, but I found my console at a website called Select Video Games - http://www.selectvideogames.com/snesconsoles.html. It took a little longer than I was expecting (about a week or so) but overall I was pretty happy with thier service.
