Theme parties are always great fun. One thing to be careful of however is making sure that the theme you choose is appropriate for the guests you have invited.

Young kids will be more apt to enjoy a specific theme than the older kids will. There will also be a difference in theme preferences between athletic type kids and bookish type kids.

Another great tip is to know the hobbies of the kids attending. Doing so will start you off in the right direction to choosing the perfect theme for your birthday party.

Pirate themes seem to be the way to go lately. This theme has been made very popular due to all of the recent movie releases.

If you have your guests dress up as pirates make sure that you do the same. A treasure chest set up with party favors is a great and adorable idea. You can also slightly alter classic party games like pin the tail on the donkey to a pirate theme by using a picture of a pirate ship instead of the donkey picture.

Another good idea for any age guests at your party is to go with a superhero theme. There are always tons of super heroes out there. You have the classic heroes that have been around forever as well as the new heroes from recent movies and cartoons.

If you encourage you guest to arrive at the party in their favorite superhero costume it will be great fun for everyone every time the doorbell rings.

You can even cater your food to the super hero theme. Something as simple as labels on the food telling what super power it contains would be a fun trick.
