subject: October 2010 Area Guide For Benalmadena [print this page]

So you planning a visit to Benalmadena with a view to buying property here in Costa del Sol But you would like to know a bit about the place before you visit well hopefully this guide to Benalmadena will help you.

Covering an area of almost 28Km, and with an official 31,000 inhabitants, Benalmadena is just 20 kilometers from Malaga Airport. It's easy to reach from both Malaga capital and International Airport by road, train or bus and its privileged position looking out onto the Mediterranean Sea, it is little wonder that it has grown so rapidly in size over the last 20 years and become so popular - especially with the British.

It is always lively, but the busiest time of year is during the hot summer months, when holidaymakers swell the population by more than triple - up to 100,000 people. This area offers an easy lifestyle and a comfortable climate (minimum temperatures of 5 and a summer maximum of 35) with the light sea breezes. Many thousands of British families have bought holiday homes and a large number of them have settled down permanently to live the life of their dreams. There are several moments in the history of Benalmdena which are of particular significance and make it a privileged enclave. On the one hand, Benalmdena was designated Town of Tourist Interest in the early 70s and three years later the Tvoli amusement park was inaugurated, it was the first and only one of its kind along the coast for nearly thirty years and offered something never seen before. However, the most decisive moment for the whole town was the building and inauguration of its marina, the largest along the coast. On several occasions it was awarded the prize of "best marina in the world" by specialized communication companies. The marina has more than 1.000 mooring places and boasts a beautiful architecture along with leisure and recreational possibilities attracting millions of visitors every year. The last significant step was the beginning of the Olympus Project aimed mainly at creating new leisure and recreational elements so as to improve what the town has to offer. The project also means building infrastructures and making them meet certain requirements so that the town achieves a level of quality and sustained growth required by 21st century citizens and tourists The idea of building in Benalmdena a Maritime Centre arose a long time ago, the purpose being to provide the town's marina with a meeting place for seafarers and marine enthusiasts together with a series of specialized stores. One of the most beautiful seaside walks of the Mediterranean is located along the coastline. The area is a blend of the tranquility provided by the beach and the sea along with a series of stores and restaurants making for a very pleasant moment. The holiday centre alongside the Mediterranean accommodates among other things a fabulous night club with flamenco and international dance shows, a casino and several halls for conventions and congresses.

I hope you enjoy your visit to Benalmadena
