subject: A History Of The Wall Street Journal [print this page]

In this article, I will be discussing the history of one of the most prominent newspapers ever - the Wall Street Journal. In addition, I will show you how you can get a Wall Street Journal subscription at a major discount by ordering your subscription online.

The Wall Street Journal started back in 1889. It was founded by three individuals, Charles Dow, Edward Jones, and Charles Bergstresser. Even at that time, Wall Street was the capital of New York's financial world, and the paper was therefore named after this famous street. Dow Jones & Company was the original owner, and it operated the paper during its formative years.

Eventually, the paper was bought by Clarence Barron, whose family continued to run the paper during the 20th century. In 2007, the paper was acquired by its present owner, Newscorp.

Overall, the Journal has been a very successful enterprise, with 2.1 million readers today. Today, there are online editions in addition to web tools available to subscribers. The only major rival to the Journal is probably the Financial Times. It is noteworthy that the Wall Street Journal, since its inception has won over 30 Pulitzer Prizes.

Without question, the paper is most noted for its coverage of business and financial news. But in fact, the Journal covers many topics, including international news and a famous editorial section. Other areas covered regularly include entertainment, food and drink, travel, and quite a few other topics. So, while the Journal clearly does devote much of its focus on financial and business news, it also does a good job of mixing things up, and giving you plenty of other things to read about.

You may think a WSJ subscription will cost you quite a bit of money, but this is actually not the case at all. You can typically save up to 80% off newsstand prices on a Wall Street Journal subscription by using special discount links on the Internet. In fact, the paper is often less expensive to subscribe to than many local papers, and is well worth the price given all the great news you will receive.
