We usually see a couple or even more masterpiece per decade, and the sixties surely gave us some great movies when you look at all the great movies that were released during that period. Having so many movies to pick, it can be difficult to give a top five of the best movies from the sixties.
It was hard to only pick five movies but I finally managed to do it.
I think the first spot of this top five would go to Lawrence of Arabia. This great movie from the beginning of the sixties was released in 1962 and shows a great Peter OToole in one of his best movies. This epic world war one movie takes place around Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The second place of my top five best movies from the sixties would go to Goldfinger. This James Bond movie was released in 1964 and was the beginning of a great series of movies with Sean Connery. All James bon lovers will agree with me when I say that it was a great movie.
The longest day released in 1962 would go to the third place of my ranking. It is probably one of the best world war two movies ever that many have tried to copy and only a few succeeded in doing better. This great movie simply relates the events of D-day from both sides and includes great actors like Sean Connery, Robert Mitchum or John Wayne. The movie got two Oscars. I personally prefer the black and white version which gives it more punch.
West Side Story is another of these amazing movies that could have been in first place like all the other movies above. The movie was released at the beginning of the sixties in 1961. The movie is based on a musical and shows to rival groups in New York city fighting each other. This movie got something like ten Oscars and many other rewards.
I thought I should put a different movie for the fifth place, something unusual, and The pink panther which was released in 1964 is the best for that. This comedy starring Peter Sellers as the famous Jacques Clouseau is just hilarious. The movie follows our dear inspector who tries to catch a jewel robber.
I know that you will not all agree with my choice of movies as there are so many to choose.
