subject: Unlocked Cell Phones: Will They Replace Landlines? [print this page]

Nowadays, there are more people that are ditching their landline phones in favor of Unlocked Cell Phones or other mobile devices. Some do it because they generally use their GSM cell phones or other devices to communicate. Others do it because it saves them money. It may be the "in" thing, but it's something that should not be taken lightly. Is having a mobile phone really the best way of communication? Is it a good idea to limit yourself with that and get rid of the landline phone?

For some, it may be a good idea. For others, it may be a different story. Here are some ways that you can determine whether or not Unlocked Cell Phones and mobile devices in general can replace your landline phone, or if you still need both:

1.Landline phones will work wherever you use them. Even if you have a metal roof on your house, you will still be able to dial out. More than likely, you will not get a signal using GSM Cell Phones, or any mobile device for that matter. Metal and mobile phones don't work well together and just about everytime you try to use it, you will get a signal interference. You would have to go away from the house in order to get a signal.

2.Receiving less telemarketing calls on any cell phone, like Unlocked Cell Phones, is a blessing. Thanks to the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), telemarketers are not allowed to leave automated messages on mobile devices without permission from the owner of the phone. If you decide to ditch your landline for a cell phone, you won't endure many telemarketing calls.

3.There are some areas in which your mobiles won't work because there is only so much coverage. Even in some of the major areas there are "dead spots" where the phone will not get a signal. The signals can always get blocked and you cannot always depend on getting a signal in a major metropolitan area.

4.If there is thunder and lightning in your area, landline phones are not the best communication devices to use. It is very dangerous and people have been killed because the landline phones are wired. The storms can hit the wire and you could be affected. Using your mobile during a storm is better because there is no direct connection between the lighting and the phone.

Depending on your phone needs, you have to decide whether or not you should just have a mobile device, a landline, or both. You also have to take into consideration if you have a family that includes children. In that case, you may want to have both options. It's easier to say that you want to save money by getting rid of one. However, there may be a time when you need both of them. You have to weigh it out and see what the best solution is.
